Vale Pat MacGinley

It is with deep sadness, that we hear the passing of an Australian Polo great, Pat MacGinley.

Pat started his polo career in 1969 and was part of the selection panel for the Australian Polo Hall of Fame, he was instrumental in its creation, as well as establishing the Australian Polo Past Players Association.

Pat had an astounding career that included several appearances for Australia of which he captained the Australian team, he also won America’s Cup and Captained a team which included King Charles back in the 80’s.

Pat worked alongside Anto White and Jim Gilmore and was instrumental in sourcing over 280 horses, from around Australia for the Federation of International Polo World Cup, played at Sydney Polo Club in 2017.

Pat had a major influence on the sport of polo in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales.

Sinclair Hill has descriped Pat as  “a great contributor to polo. He was from that great nursery of polo - the Darling Downs. He was a very talented player and was a player of great influence during Australia’s golden years of polo”

His contribution to polo in Australia was astonishing and he will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are very much with his family at this time.
