Report from Stephen Mowbray, Photographer:
What a final ! Under ever threatening skies that finally started to let loose during the presentations, today we witnessed an outstanding final match in the 2017 Countess Of Dudley Cup. Gus Aguirre replaced Max Charlton in Peter Huston's Windsor Team hoping to make amends for their second placing in the Open last weekend. They took to the field hoping to add the very prestigious Countess of Dudley Cup title to their very impressive and successful resume this season which already includes the Kerry Packer Cup played at Ellerston 3 weeks ago. Their opponents today knew it was going to be physical but they had a big 'Gunn' on their side, and some of Angus's ride-offs had the crowd all leaning to the side feeling the hit !! The boys from Scone (Ed Mandie 0, Alec White 5, Jack Archibald 5, Angus Gunn 2) threw everything at the team from Windsor (Peter Huston 0, Gus Aguirre 3, Dirk Gould 5, Jake Daniels 4 in a very tight, tough match. It took over 5 1/2 minutes for the first goal to be registered, quickly followed by a second for a 2-0 lead to Windsor at the end of the first.A five goal second chukka saw Windsor leading 5-2 and at the end of the 4th chukka it was 7-4 to Windsor. The men from Scone clawed one back in a single goal fifth chukka setting up a great finish under those now very dark skies. A great run down the eastern side by Jack Archibald was capitalised on by Alec White with a great piece of play through some very heavy defense to get the margin back to one with still a couple of minutes to go ... were we going into overtime in the rain ?? Unfortunately, it was not to be, time ran out for the men from Scone. Congratulations to Windsor, very worthy winners of the magnificent Countess Of Dudley Trophy for 2017.

The Lady de Chair Trophy for Champion Pony was won by Dirk Gould playing 'Isabel', the R.W.Farrell Trophy for Champion Novice Pony was won by Jake Daniels and 'Ivy' and Angus Gunn was awarded the Vychan Trophy for a team Of Three Ponies played by a Player of 2 goals or less playing 'Song', 'Smee' and 'Truce'. And last but certainly not least, the Curtis Skene Trophy for most improved NSW Player judged for the period of Dudley to Dudley was most deservedly won by Gus Aguirre.
