QuirindiProgramme2013
Rebecca Hockey of Quirindi Polo Carnival Club sends the following results & report:

The annual Quirindi Polo Carnival was a great start to spring with amazing weather, sun hats, delicious food and wine and of course plenty of polo action to watch.

We saw 13 teams this year with 5 teams in the C Grade.  This 0 Goal competition saw SCONE B (B Bishop, N Russel, B Beatson and G Kelly) take out the David Cowdery Memorial Cup against BLOOMFIELD (A Thompson, H Haydon, P Haydon and C Boyd), 3 goals to 1.

The B Grade ran a 4 to 6 goal Competition for the Robert Simson Cup.  This was won by SLEDMERE (I Railton, R Murphy, J Mackay and Earl Herbert) against TIMOR (F Labron-Johnson, C Aguirre, A Aguirre and K Sullivan).  5 goals to 2 ½.

The Eric Cadell Cup is contested by the A Grade Beaten teams and this was won by SCONE A (S McCreery, N Benson, S Gunn and A Gunn against QUIRINDI B (J Hockey, W Simson, D Doolin and R Davies). 11 goals to 6 ½.

And what everyone came to see was the contest for the A Grade’s Northern Champion Challenge Cup – no doubt, the only ‘off the stick’ competition left in NSW polo.  This year it saw the 9 goal QUIRINDI A team (M Pursehouse, M Hockey, W Gilmore and M Grimes) andthe 8 goal ELLERSTON team (A Gilmore, A Barnett, G Boonzaier and G Kirkpatrick) go head to head on the Sunday.  It was an action packed game played with a lot of grunt and passion for the win - requiring some big hitting to make the plays.  It could’ve ended either way, but the local team QUIRINDI A sealed their victory with a 2 goal lead in the final chukka and a final score of 5 goals to 3.

The club’s Most Improved Player was awarded to Scott Chambers.

The Groom’s Prize, donated by the Hockey Family, was awarded to Will Gilmore’s groom, Elizabeth Funnel.

Pony prizes were as follows:

A Grade Pony – Guy Kirkpatrick’s Limerick

A Grade Team of Ponies – Will Gilmore’s Tulsa, Daybreak, Limelight, Tickle, Innocent and Penny

B Grade Pony – Earl Herbert’s Paris

C Grade Pony – Brad Beatson’s pony (name?)

Novice Pony – Mark Barber’s Esmeralda

Club Pony – Mick Hockey’s Sunny

The Quirindi Polo Carnival Club would like to thank everyone that came to support their annual tournament, in particular the committee, wives, partners and family for all their hard work to make it such a wonderful success.  Thanks is also given to our very important and generous sponsors: the Pursehouse Family, Pursehouse Rural, Agracom, North West Farm Machinery, NFS-Ag, JT Fossey cars and trucks, and Gowings Toyota.
