Report & Results: Tamarang Tournament, 22 & 23 August 2009

On Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd August, the Tamarang Polo Club hosted its annual tournament. 5 teams competed in the B Grade competition with Scone C winning the trophy over Gunnedah A by 6 goals to 4 1/2.

4 teams competed in the A Grade competition with two very competitive games on Saturday seeing Scone Red defeating Tamarang A by 5 to 4 1/2 and Scone White defeating Quirindi A by 7 to 5 1/2.

Sunday saw the local clash in the beaten A grade sides between Quirindi and Tamarang with Quirindi coming out winners 5 1/2 to 4. Quirindi team captained by Mark Barber at no 3 with James Hock at no 1, Robert Doolin at No 2 and Angus Scott at the back.

The A Grade final was an all Scone affair with pride and the selectors eye at stake. Jack Archibald for Scone White came out and put 5 unanswered goals on in the first two chukkas. Doug Munro trying his heart out for the Red team scored a goal in each of the last three chukkas but with two further goals to the White team through Billy Bishop saw Scone White triumph by 7 to 3.

Scone White was an Archibald team with James at No 4, Ed at No 3, Jack at No 2 and Bill Bishop at No 1.

For the beaten Reds: Al Simson No 1, Doug Munro No 2, Sam Gunn No 3 and David Bettington No 4.

Hugo White from the vitorious Scone C was nominated best & fairest for the Carnival.

Many of the young and not so young Scone players were attending their first Tamarang Carnival and all commented on the great hospitality and fun involved with a real bush polo carnival and party.

All players and some of the seasoned spectators made mention of how well thefield lookked and played. Many thanks to President Simon Thompson and Treasurer James Simson for their tireless work in preparing the field.
