Tamarang send the following report of their tournament:

On 21 and 22 August Tamarang Polo Club held its annual tournament at Ron and Di McHardy's field at Spring Ridge.

Four teams competed in A grade for The Stuart McKellar Cup: North Star, Scone, Quirindi and Tamarang.

Wirragulla, Gunnedah , Quirindi B and Tamarang B contested the B grade for the John Feruson Memorial Cup.
Gunnedah (Bonnie & Ella Skerrett, Melissa McCarthy, Phil Clift and Jeremy Metcalf) and Tamarang B (Colin Campbell, Scott Chambers, Andrew Badgery and James Simson) had strong wins on Saturday and saw them into Sunday's final.

B Grade Final Report
: A tight contest for the first two chukkas yielded only a single goal late in the second to Tamarang. Gunnedah equalised with a massive 60 yard penalty hit by Phil Clift only to have Tamarang hit back immediately with a goal to Boo Badgery. After some great lead up play by Col Campbell to gain a penalty in the goal mouth, Boo Badgery put the Tamarangs out by two goals and it was obvious that Gunnedah were going to throw everything they had at them. The wiley and ever dangerous Phil Clift lifted the tempo and Tamarang B defended hard to thwart his team's attack and ended up winners 3 goals to 2. Strong games were played by Boo Badgery and Col Campbell for the winners and Phil Clift and the Skerrett girls for Gunnedah.

The A Grade final on Sunday was played between old rivals Tamarang and Quirindi. Tamarang (Dennis Lee, Jim Henry, Mark Barber and Tim Skerrett) had a good win over Scone (Nigel Russell, Al Stafford, Will Simson and Al Simson) on Saturday, while Quirindi (James Hockey, Rob Doolin, Mike McKechnie and Rob Davies) had a narrow win over North Star (Damien Allport, Angus Doolin, Nick Benson and Simon Doolin) in a fast and furious match on Saturday. Tamarang raided the Quirindi goal many times in the first two chukkas to post the only goal. Jim Henry made several strong runs to put his side on attack after some dogged goal line defence by Tim Skerrett who had been struck on the forehead by a ferocious near side back shot by team mate Mark Barber and looked like something out of a horror movie after being attended to by the medico. Tamarang went up by another goal in the third and after some strong raids by James Hockey and Rob Davies and more brilliant deffence by Skerrett and Barber, Quirindi hit back with a big 60 yard hit by Mike McKechnie and then another goal to equalise in the fourth. Rob Davies scored for Quirindi and Mark Barber for Tamarang to have it tense at three all into the fifth when Mike McKechnie took the opportunity on his fast and powerful Malcom Pursehouse bred mare to make a long run from deep in his own half to score a great goal that closed the game out for Quirindi with half a minute remaining.

The Stuart McKellar Cup went to Quirindi 4 to 3 in an entertaining final brilliantly commentated by Ian McDuie.
Mike McKechnie took out Champion pony and team of ponies with his Malcom Pursehouse bred string.
Jim Henry won the club pony and team of ponies.
The ever improving polo player James Hockey was rewarded for a great tournament by being declared the best and fairest player of the carnival.

See you next year at the Tamarang Polo Tournament.
