2013 Calendar & President''s Welcome

Welcome to the 2013 Polo Year, the 2013 Tournaments Calendar is available here.

President's Welcome
We have much activity planned this year for all standards of polo player, from high goal to those learning and beginning to play chukkas.

We are looking forward to the Easter festival of polo and hope you can join us on the sidelines if not on horseback. On Thursday 28th March there is the inaugural Hall of Fame dinner in Sydney, which promises to be a spectacular night and to which you are all warmly invited. Please contact Suzie Ruse in the office for more information or see details on the website. This is followed on Easter Friday and Saturday by polo at the Royal Easter Show and the finals of the Countess of Dudley Cup, run as last year as an exciting high goal Open Tournament, on Easter Sunday at Richmond.

The weekend after Easter on 7th April, you can watch Australia take on England in the Test Match at Windsor Polo Club.

And this year our State 10 goal championship for the Hector King Trophy has been moved to the Autumn and will take place at Windsor on the 19th May at the end of the tournament season for all three zones.

Last year saw larger numbers than ever learning polo either as coaching clinic participants or playing friendly chukkas at our clubs. We sincerely hope this trend will continue. We are also setting up a Junior Development Squad to nurture our young talent.

As soon as it becomes available, all information on NSW tournaments is displayed on the upgraded NSW Polo website: www.nswpolo.com.au., along with news and other matters of interest to players and supporters, so please make use of it as your point of contact.

I remind all players that, prior to taking part in either practice chukkas or tournaments, it is essential to register on-line via NSW Polo’s website and Clubsonline, as this covers you for public liability and basic personal accident insurance for all players. You can upgrade the personal accident insurance direct with Affinity Insurance Brokers.

One of the milestones of last year was the adoption of a revised constitution and the Board is already instituting changes to the administration in preparation for the new structure to be applied from this year’s AGM.

Please play safely and with courtesy at all times, and with regard for the Rules & discipline at whatever level you participate. The APF Rules of Polo and Policies are available to download any time from the website so there is no excuse for any player not to be familiar with them. This year most players will need to attend umpire training and accreditation to test this knowledge. You should also be aware that under the safety/drug testing policy players may be tested at any time.

So, whether as a player, a spectator or behind the scenes, do enjoy your polo wherever you are in NSW.

Ian McDuie
President
