Dear Members,

Please be advised of the passing of Michael Harley, who over the years has spent much time in the Hawkesbury and has influenced many a polo player and spectators with his near full gallop penalty shots.

Michael Harley has died suddenly at the race track where he trained horses. Michael played in Western Australia and on a visit to the East John Wayland and Tim Skyring asked him to be based at Windsor.  In 1977 and 1979, John Wayland and Michael Grace played as Windsor against Windsor -The Guards Club.  In the early 1980s he was the lynch-pin of many successful Windsor teams that won the Charley Trophy ["A Grade] and other Association games.  He was employed and trained horses for nearly every family of players in Australia, from the Gold Coast to Shoalhaven and is remembered with great affection as the gentleman's player.  He played high goal and reached 5 goals although with better horses he could have been anyone's '6'. A wonderful man and a kind friend who would do anything for anyone.  John Wayland

Our condolences,

Julie McIntosh
President, Windsor Polo Club
