Report: WELLINGTON POLO CLUB Tournament & 100 years Celebration: 4 & 5 September 2010

Unfortunately Wellington's tournament was cancelled after one B Grade game due to too much rain. Previous cancellations in recent years have been to drought and Equine Flu, but now it was the opposite problem. 7 teams were nominated.

The good news was the Centenary lunch celebration went ahead with approx 80 people attending.

A couple of quotes:
Earl Herbert: " Best bush ground in the state if not the country."
Another local: " If we have another drought we will get the polo club to organise a tournament - sure to rain."

Dear Club Secretary,

On behalf of the President & committee of the Wellington & District Polo Club we would like to invite your club to nominate a team, teams &/or individuals to play in our annual tournament to be held on the 4th & 5th of September.

As with other clubs we are will be having 4 & 5 chukka polo, so when nominating could you please state your preference & we shall endeavour to accommodate.

This year our club is holding its Centenary celebration which will include a beautiful sit down 2 course lunch for past and present players and members on the Saturday catered by the Wellington Fundraisers at 12 noon. If anyone would like to attend the lunch could they please contact Bren Maurice on 68466215.
A light lunch will also be available for players & grooms who don’t wish to have a sit down meal.

So please make the effort to make this a weekend to remember so we can look forward to the next 100 years.

Our ground fees will be : $200 per team for 5 chukkas & $160 per team for 4 chukkas.
Our ground is looking fantastic again this year with a really good cover of grass so we are expecting it to play really well.
Lunch will be available both days as well as a BBQ dinner & full bar on Saturday night at the ground and it would be most appreciated if players , grooms & supporters could support our club.
Please contact one of the above numbers if you require any assistance with accommodation or stabling for our tournament.

Looking forward to seeing you here to help celebrate our centenary.

Regards

Jenny Barton
Secretary
