Results & Report: North Star Polo Club Tournament and NSWPA Coaching Clinic, 6 & 7 AUGUST 2011

Program
Country polo was at its best as a fantastic crowd cheered on the annual North Star Polo Tournament on the 6th and 7th of August. This a year a bumper 10 teams made up three grades of competition.

The A grade action was fast and strong with the Downs team, taking out the R. J. Doolin Memorial Challenge Cup over North Star Earthquip 7 goals to 5 and a half.

The B grade Peco Trading Co Cup was won by Brown and Hurley 4 and a half goals to 4 over Dieci.

Lastly but not least the C grade Westpac Challenge was held over 2 days between Downs ll and North Star ll with the eventual winners being North Star ll team, 9 goals to 4 and a half in a hard fought battle.

Special mention must go to Ellerston who supported the competition with 6 players and brought some amazing horses and lovely action up from Scone for the spectators to enjoy. Also the Yetman WOFTAMS (they can tell you what that stands for) enjoyed their maiden hit out with young players Scotty and Henry Holcombe teaming up with seasoned players, Will Keen and Andrew Williams to play their first tournament.

Best and Fairest player was Angus Gilmore, Team of ponies was won by Will Gilmore, A grade pony was Will Gilmore’s Quote B grade pony was an Ellerston horse ridden by Neil Craig and the Club pony was Nic Benson’s LCM. Most improved club player was Scott Holcombe. Much fun was had by all and it is great see country polo lives on in the bush.

North Star Polo Club would like to thank its major sponsors Earthquip & Westpac.
