PRESS RELEASE
RESURGENT DROUGHT FORCES RELOCATION
OF GOULBURN POLO TOURNAMENT

Due to worsening drought conditions, the Goulburn Polo Club has reluctantly resolved to move the Annual Goulburn Polo Tournament (13 and 14 May) to Windsor polo fields. This is the third time in a row and the decision has been forced upon the Club which has been playing at “Springfield” Goulburn for nearly 60 years without interruption, except one year when the grounds were too wet!
The Goulburn Polo Club has been enjoying considerable success on the country circuit and last week the “A” team of Henry Bell, Angus Campbell, Callum MacLachlan and Simon Walker won the annual Gundalong Tournament held at Garangula, the Jugiong property of Swiss banker Urs Schwartzenbach. Goulburn won in extra time against the host team.
At Easter, the Club Captain, Simon Walker from Yass, played for Australia in the Test Match against India, convincingly won by Australia.
The decision to move to Windsor is particularly disappointing given that after the excellent spring break, the polo fields were re-sown and an excellent strike was achieved.
Polo President, James Bell, said “We were really looking forward to returning to our polo fields at “Springfield” this year and it is a major disappointment to have to relocate to Windsor again; the fact is that the fields are too dry and too hard and it would not be fair to players or to ponies to try to play in these conditions.”
The Club will be running a free bus for members on Mother’s Day so they can attend the polo at the Windsor Polo Club fields at Richmond. With the opening of the M7, the trip to Richmond has been reduced to about 2 hours and the Club is hoping to welcome as many members as possible to enjoy the traditional Mother’s Day lunch at the Windsor Club House.
A large number of teams have nominated for the Goulburn Annual Tournament now to be held at the Windsor polo fields located on Old Kurrajong Road just west of Richmond.

Players & Spectators: The Goulburn Polo Club Annual Tournament is on Mothers' Day weekend at Springfield, Goulburn.
