Our Annual Tournament Returns - 12 & 13 May 2007

After 3 years of running our Annual Tournament at Windsor Polo Club we are at last able to announce a definite return of our Annual Tournament to “Springfield”.

I know we said this once before and were beaten by the drought, but this time we have already had some useful rain on the grounds and your Committee has taken another dramatic step:

At our recent meeting we committed to “sand” our main field (closest to the club-house). Sanding involves spreading a thin film of sand over the entire field. This will have 2 effects: it will help to even out the playing surface and even more importantly it will make playing surface softer going and safer. Even if it is dry in May, the surface will be kind to ponies and play will be safe. Work is due to commence very shortly.

Sanding of fields is common practice in Sydney and at some of the wealthy private clubs but, as you will imagine, very expensive. We have committed $10,000 to this task which is a very significant cost for a country club. Having in recent years completed and fitted out the Club House, connected the power, installed permanent PA facilities, erected our yards complex and re-sown our fields (all with the help of our members), it is the fields which remain our biggest challenge. Nevertheless we are gradually improving them and sanding is an essential part of the process.

Goulburn's Annual Tournament will include a Dinner Dance at the Club-House on Saturday night and the traditional Mothers' Day Lunch on the Sunday. Bookings for both are essential.
