NEWS FROM THE CLUB

TOURNAMENT PAYS TRIBUTE TO A UNIQUE MAN

This years’ Millamolong Country Classic Polo Tournament is a celebration of the life of James Ashton and his wonderful contribution to the Polo world.

For many years the Millamolong Polo Club has been part of the great Country Classic series which travels across the region supporting country polo. This years’ tournament hosts the Memorial James and Jamie Ashton Tournament on 17th and 18th April at the Millamolong Polo field.

Renowned world-wide for his polo pony breeding programme, James bred countless talented polo ponies that have sold across the world. To remember his great love of the sport and his fondness of speed, Millamolong is launching a unique polo pony race - The James Ashton’s “PONY EXPRESS” Cup - to find the fastest polo pony at the tournament on Saturday 17 April in the afternoon.

We hope it will be a spectacular sight as the players charge across the field to try and win the grand prize and historic cup. Each player is invited to enter their fastest polo pony. Numbers are limited so players are encouraged to register early – ASAP!

After the race there will be an Auction of some of Millamolong’s prized polo ponies at the polo field. This is a unique opportunity to purchase from one of the great pony lines of Australian polo.

“James first love was polo and horses,” says Andrew Ashton.
“He was never happier than when spreading and promoting the game he loved through his many polo endeavours. The Millamolong Polo Tournament which he initiated will remain as his lasting legacy.”

“We invite all the polo community and the community at large to come and be a part of the tournament and look forward to welcoming our friends back at this seasons’ event”

President of Millamolong Polo Club, Joe Curran, said “James was an outstanding man in many areas but his true passion and where he shone was playing polo. He knew a good polo horse by sight and would be chuffed with the fact we are putting together a polo horse race in his honour”

Information about the tournament, the race and the auction
will be posted on the Millamolong website from Friday the 9th April
The tournament will begin on Friday the 16th April, main games start Saturday
The Pony Express Race will be held at 3.45pm Saturday.
