POLO IN THE PADDOCK ... & IN THE PINK
9 DEC 2004

A message from Sue Murray, the general manager of the National Breast Cancer Foundation:
The National Breast Cancer Foundation was delighted to be the beneficiary of the charity luncheon at Millamolong's wonderful Polo in the Paddock weekend at the end of November.
Thank you to our generous hosts Susan and James Ashton whose idea it was to support breast cancer research through a function that was also a memorial to their friend Sue Kavals who died earlier this year from breast cancer.
Somehow the marquee which was supposed to have a limit of 200 for lunch was stretched to accommodate an extra 80 people, who thoroughly enjoyed the delectable food provided by outstanding chef Heinz Thole and Tessa and a team of members of Mandurama CWA. Dr Stuart Renwick, breast cancer specialist, Vic Kavals and Susan Ashton all spoke about the urgency of supporting research into the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer to assist women all over Australia. James Bell did an admirable job as MC for the lunch and many generous guests bought raffle tickets and bid on the silent auction items, kindly donated by so many supporters.
There was extremely exciting hard and fast polo happening all weekend - particularly the games after lunch which saw Millamolong (in the white Pink Ribbon t-shirts) prevail over Bong Bong (in the hot Pink Ribbon t-shirts). In the final match of the day the Canadians just overpowered the Australians.
Proceeds from the day will be close to $20,000.00 with generous donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation continuing to arrive. Vic Kavals' vision for the polo community is to see the efforts at Millamolong translated across Australia to benefit breast cancer research.
